Men, Is Your Chest Prepared for Spring?

Posted March 09, 2022 in Gynecomastia

3 Minute Read:

Those hot spring and summer months are coming, which means days spent outside at the pool, lake, or beach. While everyone around you is shirtless and in their bathing suits, sipping drinks and playing in the water, you want to make sure you participate in the fun.

But for men who suffer from gynecomastia, these spring and summer gatherings can be frustrating and embarrassing. Gynecomastia is a condition in which male breast tissue increases, resulting in the formation of breasts (or more commonly termed “man boobs”).

This condition causes men to feel self-conscious about their appearance, keeping them in shirts or hidden beneath towels.

However, with gynecomastia surgery (male breast reduction surgery), men will be able to show off their toned and defined chests with pride all year long.

The only catch is that those spring and summer days are right around the corner, so you want to act fast to make sure that you’re fully recovered to enjoy the sun, sand, and water!

What Are the Benefits of Gynecomastia Surgery?

As a society, we’ve created the ideal male figure as a man with broad shoulders, a chiseled chest, and six-pack abs. Many of our favorite male celebrities have this ideal form, and it is something so many men desire to have for themselves.

The great news is that with plastic surgery procedures, attaining this look is not impossible. The benefits of gynecomastia surgery are both physical and psychological.

Not only will you have a more toned and defined chest appearance, but you will also feel more confident in the way you look.

How Is the Surgery Performed?

With gynecomastia surgery, Dr. Bonaldi will use liposuction to remove excess subcutaneous fat and excision techniques to remove glandular tissue and skin in your breasts. He will then redistribute any remaining fat and tissue for a better contour.

After the incisions and removal of fat and/or tissue, your incisions will be closed with sutures, and you’ll be ready to begin the recovery process to get you ready for the spring and summer!

Gynecomastia surgery usually takes about two hours and is performed under general anesthesia, so you will not feel any pain or discomfort during the procedure.

What Is Recovery Like After Gynecomastia Surgery?

In the days following your surgery, you will have substantial bruising and swelling in the area, though these side effects will dissipate over the next few weeks. You may also feel some tenderness and discomfort during your initial recovery period. Medication can be taken to alleviate this discomfort; however, if you have persistent pain, please make sure to contact Dr. Bonaldi’s office ASAP.

Typically, gynecomastia surgery recovery takes anywhere from one to two weeks, though you should be able to return to work after a few days. During these weeks, you will wear a compression garment to help with recovery, and you’ll want to make sure that you are taking it easy and resting your body. This means refraining from any strenuous activity, including exercising and lifting anything of weight. It is also important that you eat healthy and drink plenty of water, which will only quicken your recovery time. Over the next several weeks and months, your swelling will subside, and your final results will become apparent.

At your follow-up appointment, Dr. Bonaldi will evaluate your recovery and clear you for activity.
