How Will My Facelift Age?

2 Minute Read:

When performed by a skilled practitioner and cared for over time, facelift surgery offers quality, long-lasting results. However, the key to this relies on one word: care. A facelift patient is responsible for maintaining their results with a healthy skin routine.

Happy, middle-afed woman with smooth facial skin that would be possible with a facelift.

The steps a patient can take to ensure that their youthful appearance lasts for as long as possible are not complicated, and following these steps can provide additional years of enjoyment.

What Can I Expect From a Facelift?

Facelift results vary based on age, skin condition, overall health, and lifestyle factors. But, generally speaking, a facelift offers some of the most significant rejuvenation results available.

A facelift is a surgical procedure where the facial skin and underlying muscles are lifted and tightened. Scars are generally hidden within the hairline or under the chin and will become less prominent. Most facelift procedures address lower face wrinkles and creases, loss of volume around the jawline, and sagging jowls and cheeks. A lift can also address excess skin in the neck area.

How Long Will My Facelift Results Last?

The surgical facelift procedure gives the appearance of reversing the aging process, but it does not actually slow it. Natural aging continues, and further tightening may be needed five to 15 years down the line—depending on your genetics and how well you care for your skin. A lot of the longevity depends on the quality of a patient’s skin, their overall health, and other individual factors. Eventually, gravity, the aging process, and loss of elasticity will have their way.

But that doesn’t mean patients can’t enjoy spectacular results in the meantime.

Are There Natural Ways to Prolong Facelift Results?

The same good habits that support skin health should be followed post-facelift, with perhaps even more diligence. It’s important to stay out of the sun and wear a broad-spectrum sunscreen when you cannot. Fundamental regimes of moisturizing and hydrating the skin with proper skin care should be followed. And eating a healthy diet, while maintaining a stable weight, will preserve the benefits of a good facelift. Weight loss and gain, or yo-yo dieting between the two, can profoundly impact facelift benefits—not always in a good way.

Are There Non-Surgical Cosmetic Treatments That Can Help?

In addition to following basic steps for skin care and well being, there are cosmetic treatments available that can revive and extend the age-defying effects of a facelift. Injectables, such as JUVÉDERM® and JUVÉDERM VOLUMA® XC, and laser resurfacing are sometimes used as follow-up enhancements or to “fine-tune” a facelift a year or two following the procedure.

Although facelift surgery is sometimes considered heavy artillery in the battle for youthful skin, it can offer some of the best, most natural, and longest-lasting results available.
