Neck Lift Surgery in Reno, NV

The natural aging process is influenced by many factors, including genetics, sun damage, environment, and lifestyle choices. The only commonality among aging factors is the inevitability that facial lines, wrinkles, and creases will eventually affect every person.

These signs of aging can be frustrating and are difficult to treat, especially when they are located on the neck. Loose skin and excess fat can be unflattering and annoying, and at-home treatments and healthy lifestyles are often not enough.

Men and women who would like to achieve tighter skin and firmer neck and jawline contours may benefit from neck lift surgery. Neck lift surgery trims excess skin and fat from the neck to improve unwanted neck laxity.

What Are the Benefits of a Neck Lift?

Smoother Neck Skin

The excess skin that contributes to a “turkey neck” or vertical banding is removed to reveal a smoother and firmer neck contour. Underlying muscle bands are also tightened to create a more taut and youthful appearance.

Reduced Neck Fat

Localized, diet and exercise-resistant pockets of fat develop beneath the chin and obscure the neck. Neck lift surgery involves the removal of this fat using liposuction techniques. This reduction reveals a slimmer silhouette.

More Contoured Jawline

Natural aging causes facial tissues to sag. The skin, fat, and muscles collect at the jawline to form jowls, which impact the neck appearance. Neck lift surgery removes skin and fat around the neck and jawline to create more defined angles.

What Does My Neck Lift Include?

Your Neck Lift Consultation

Your consultation with Dr. Bonaldi is an essential part of your neck lift. During this meeting, Dr. Bonaldi will:

  • Discuss your goals and expectations for the procedure
  • Examine your skin’s condition and elasticity
  • Take photos of your neck and jawline
  • Recommend any additional surgery that can further benefit your neck results
  • Establish a surgical plan
  • Inform you of any steps needed to prepare for your neck lift
    • This may include stopping tobacco and the use of aspirin, anti-inflammatory drugs, and herbal supplements.

Patients who display minimal sagging in the neck may benefit from a limited incision neck lift. This less invasive option only requires incisions around the ears and has a shorter recovery period.

Your Neck Lift Procedure

Your neck lift surgery will be performed at our outpatient surgery center under general anesthesia. This surgery is usually completed in under two hours, but it may take longer if additional procedures are performed in combination with your neck lift.

Neck lift incisions begin in the hairline at the sideburn and continue down and around the ear, ending in the posterior hairline.

Underlying neck tissues and the platysma muscle are tightened, neck fat is resculpted and redistributed, and excess skin is trimmed.

The skin is draped over the newly tightened neck contours, and the incisions are closed using sutures.

Combination Facelift

Many patients who are interested in a neck lift would also benefit from a facelift.

Most people experience skin laxity on both the face and neck. Even though they do not have to be performed together, many patients find that this combination maintains an aesthetic balance between the features.

The incisions for a neck lift are the same incisions required for a facelift. Therefore, this is a logical and beneficial combination.

Addressing Your Concerns

Recovery

Most patients can return home a few hours after their neck lift procedure.

A bandage will be wrapped around the face and neck to help minimize swelling, bruising, and soreness. Patients should rest with their heads elevated to aid in healing and assure proper blood circulation.

Most patients can return to work and normal activities within one to three weeks.

Scars

Dr. Bonaldi tries to make all incisions as inconspicuous as possible by concealing them along the natural hairline and in the contours around the ear. Scarring can be minimized by keeping the healing incisions out of the sun and applying silicone strips or gel to the incisions. All scars will fade with time.

Cost

Your neck lift is customized to your specific needs. Therefore, we cannot provide you with an accurate neck lift cost estimate until after your consultation. This estimate will include anesthesia fees, facility fees, surgeon’s fees, pre-surgical tests, post-surgical dressings, and combination procedures.

Pain

Any discomfort can be lessened with prescribed or over-the-counter pain medication. Dr. Bonaldi will provide you with specific instructions about how to care for your incisions—if necessary.

Most of the discomfort subsides within a few days.

Frequently Asked Questions About Neck Lift

  • What are the risks associated with a neck lift?

As with any surgical procedure, neck lift surgery does come with risks. These risks include:

    • Adverse reactions to the anesthesia
    • Bleeding
    • Infection
    • Nerve injury
    • Fluid accumulation
    • Changes in skin sensation
    • Facial asymmetry
    • Prolonged healing
    • Unfavorable scarring
  • What procedures can be combined with a neck lift?

While facelift surgery is the most common surgery that is performed in combination with a neck lift, it is not the only one. A brow lift or eyelid lift can also be combined with neck lift surgery to target facial aging in the upper third of the face.

    This combination balances facial aesthetics.

  • Does a facelift have to be combined with a neck lift?

Neck lift surgery can be performed without a facelift, and facelift surgery can be performed without a neck lift. While these procedures do not have to be performed together, most men and women would benefit from doing so. Treating one without the other may contribute to an unbalanced appearance for some patients.

  • When will I see my neck lift results?

The results of your neck lift may take some time before they are fully apparent. This is due to prolonged bruising and swelling. Most patients begin to see their final results within three months.

With proper care and a healthy lifestyle, patients can enjoy their more youthful, rejuvenated neckline for many years.
