How Can I Thicken My Hair Without Surgery?

3 Minute Read:

There may come a time in your life when you notice that your hair is not as luscious as it used to be. Men and women tend to experience this as male or female pattern baldness, which can be highly distressing and catastrophic to their self-esteem.

Many men and women often jump to the conclusion that the only way to restore their full head of hair is to resort to surgical procedures. This is not necessarily the case.

There are various holistic methods you can incorporate before you go the surgery route.

How Does the Scalp Contribute to Hair Loss?

To maintain the thickness and health of your hair, make sure that your scalp is clean. It is surprising what products can affect your scalp’s microbiome — yes, your scalp has one of those too.

While this is commonly seen with women due to the various hair care products used, it can affect both men and women.

The main culprits are:

  • Sulfate shampoos: stay away from these, as they dry out the hair and cause damage to the hair shaft.
  • Dry shampoos: the idea is to preserve your hair’s natural oils, but you can do more harm than good if you overuse these, as they cause too much build-up.

So, what can you do to improve the state of your scalp?

Get a scalp massage regularly using beneficial oils like sesame seed, rosemary, or almond oil to stimulate blood flow, slough off dead skin cells, and promote healthy circulation.

What Can Diet Do to Aid Hair?

Well, much like the rest of our bodies, our hair requires adequate vitamins, minerals, and proteins to keep it healthy. Hydration is also important as the hair shaft is made up of 25 percent water.

Eating a diet high in healthy proteins like eggs, lean meats, and organic non-GMO soy will strengthen the hair. Additionally, the most important vitamins for hair growth are the B complex, A, D, and E.

A biotin deficiency can cause hair loss, so look for a supplement containing biotin.

Does Stress Play a Role in Hair Loss?

Yes, stress is a major contributor to hair loss, which has been shown in various studies.

Hormonal responses and cytokine imbalances from stress are linked to hair loss and slow hair growth during stressful periods

Consider finding ways to manage chronic stress through meditation or yoga.

Men and women tend to experience thinning hair/hair loss in different patterns. See above. While this is the general progression of male-pattern hair loss vs. female-pattern hair loss, some women can experience male-pattern hair loss, and vice-versa.

What Are PRP Injections and How Can They Help Restore Hair?

Another option for men and women who want results without surgery would be to get PRP injections. PRP stands for platelet-rich plasma, and it is a simple, non-surgical procedure done using your own platelets to regenerate dormant hair follicles. Various PRP studies have shown the efficacy of PRP hair restoration treatments. The procedure is quick, and there is no downtime.

We often suggest both men and women use Rogaine along with their injections for optimal results.
