Brow Lift

Our facial expressions display how we feel every day, making the movement of our eyes and forehead essential for communication. When the forehead begins to form creases and fine lines and the eyebrows start to droop, our faces may display a consistently unhappy or angry appearance. A brow lift, also referred to as a forehead lift, is designed to reposition the eyebrows as well as reduce wrinkles on the forehead and between the brows. The techniques for this procedure tighten the forehead skin and adjust the muscles to lift the brows, creating a dramatically more youthful appearance.

What Are the Benefits of a Brow Lift?

Rejuvenated Skin

Excess sagging skin on the forehead is neatly trimmed away, and the muscles are manipulated to correct deep furrows. This process restores smooth skin above and between the eyebrows for refreshed upper facial contours.

Improved Expressions

With fewer wrinkles and less heaviness in the eyebrows, you can exhibit more accurate facial expressions; your face can better reflect your feelings without constantly appearing tired or angry.

Enhanced Confidence

Your face is generally the first feature people notice about you, so it is vital to be satisfied with your facial appearance for your emotional well-being. Looking and feeling younger with tighter forehead skin and lifted brows often leads to a boost in self-esteem.

What Does the Brow Lift Procedure Entail?

Endoscopic Brow Lift

A brow lift is performed using general anesthesia on an outpatient basis. Once the patient is comfortable from anesthesia administration, small incisions are created strategically in the scalp behind the hairline.

The most commonly used method is the endoscopic technique, which utilizes a thin tube with a camera to ensure precision. The forehead skin is gently lifted, and the underlying tissues and muscles are adjusted and tightened to correct drooping brows, creases along the forehead, and furrows between the brows.

The skin is then pulled taut, and the incisions are closed using removable sutures or surgical adhesives. The entire procedure takes approximately one hour to accomplish the desired results and is less invasive than other methods.

Lateral Brow Lift

Some patients would benefit most from a lateral or limited-incision brow lift to focus on the outer portion of their eyebrows (the arches). Tiny incisions are made on the scalp along the hairline for minimal corrections to be completed.

Results

Although various techniques are available, the results are all similar and designed to eliminate forehead wrinkles and furrows for smooth, youthful skin.

Addressing Your Concerns

Recovery

Recovery times differ for every patient based on which method is utilized for their procedure. Bandages may be loosely wrapped around the forehead to reduce any bruising and swelling that occurs.

Patients are told to expect at least three or four days of downtime and to avoid any demanding activities for at least one week following the procedure. Bruising and swelling typically diminishes within two weeks.

Stitches are usually removed after 10 days, and specific care instructions are provided to educate patients about caring for surgical drains and incisions as well as what to expect during recovery. Most patients return to work after one or two weeks.

Cost

Every brow lift procedure is customized to meet the patient’s individual needs, thereby creating a different price for every patient. Anesthesia fees, surgical facility costs, and other various contributing factors can all affect the pricing of the procedure.

Dr. Bonaldi is happy to discuss your goals and preferences to recommend a procedure plan and provide an accurate cost estimate during your initial consultation.

Scars

Incisions are made within the hairline, so scarring is minimal and typically isn’t visible. Visible scarring is concealable by cosmetics and tends to fade with time.

Pain

Pain medications can be taken to alleviate discomfort caused by swelling and bruising, which usually dissipates within two weeks.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is a brow lift right for me?

As we age, our forehead skin begins to stretch and create wrinkles, fine lines, and creases. The forehead and brow muscles loosen and lead to heavy, drooping brows that may hood the eyes. These concerns can create an angry, tired, or frustrated appearance. Patients who are bothered by their facial aging and are in good overall health can benefit from a brow lift. Patients who are willing to refrain from smoking before and after surgery and who are eager to maintain a healthy lifestyle and skin care routine post-surgery will benefit most from this procedure.

  • Can I combine a brow lift with other procedures?

Patients commonly decide to undergo a brow lift in conjunction with a facelift or eyelid lift to significantly improve the entire facial appearance for a full, natural transformation.

  • What results can I expect?

Once the face has healed, patients notice that the creases on their foreheads and between the brows have diminished and their brows are in a natural, youthful position. They generally appear refreshed and less angry, tired, or frustrated. Patients who follow a healthy lifestyle and skin care regimen can enjoy prolonged results.

  • Will I have a surprised or windswept appearance after my brow lift?

Appearing startled or surprised after a brow lift is commonly the result of the brows being pulled too tightly or lifted too high. Dr. Bonaldi takes care to present a natural, refreshed appearance without drastically changing the overall structure of the eyebrows.
